Intelligent Platform Management Interface IPMI

What IPMI running on an iNET Server Will Do for You - Save Time, Money and Headaches

You are at your office which is located Uptown in a large city and your Server is Downtown in a Data-Center or Co-Location Facility. You want to check the status of the Server Hardware and wasting time driving all the way to the Data-Center is costing you money.

Here is an example of what you can do in a problem situation, with an Intelligent Managment Protocol Interface (IPMI) iNET compliant Server.

The Systems Administrator is called in the middle of the night, and is told the Server might be down. If the Server was indeed down, you would still be able to connect to your iNET Server via Ethernet/Internet and would be able to determine what, if any, hardware had become defective. If for some reason the Server was turned off, you would need only to click on the Power On button and start up the Server.

With the client software installed on a P.C. you simply connect to your Server over the Internet or LAN.

Press connect and you will see the following:
On the top, the options available are:

  • New Connection,
  • Hang up current connection
  • Power On (grayed out, because you guessed it, we are connected)
  • Power Off
  • Reset Power
  • SEL (Log Files from the Hardware)
  • FRU (Components on the Server Board)
  • SDR (Sensor Data Records)
  • RSA (Remote Sensor Access)

Depending on what information is needed, its right at your local Workstation or Notebook. The following images show various important Server Hardware Health using the RSA Manager:

Naturally, there can be a time for the need to reboot and get to the BIOS. A simple click will do just that as shown below:

The IP address shown on the 'Connect' popup above is false. Actually, the session was to one of our Servers located some 2300 Miles away and, through our local Firewall.

The above shots were taken using the Client Software for Microsoft Windows. Work is being done to produce a more graphical output for FreeBSD. Your Server Business helps support our commitment to IPMI for FreeBSD.
